“The Constitution does not authorize Congress to create independent officers or agencies that exercise executive power.”
For more than a century, Congress has created independent agencies designed to operate with some independence from presidential control, including through statutory limits on the President’s power to remove their leaders. These agencies exercise substantial authority over areas such as labor, communications, securities, consumer protection, and monetary policy. But the Constitution vests executive power in the President and requires the President to ensure that federal law is faithfully executed. How much control must the President have over officials who exercise executive power?
Supporters of strong presidential control argue that officials who exercise executive power must remain accountable to the President and cannot be insulated from presidential supervision. Critics argue that the Constitution allows Congress to create independent officers and agencies, and that complete presidential control is neither required by the Constitution nor consistent with the nation’s history.
The Supreme Court brought new urgency to this longstanding debate in 2026 with major decisions addressing presidential power over independent agencies. Those decisions strengthened presidential control in some contexts while leaving important questions about the scope and limits of that authority unresolved. What does the Constitution require, and how much independence may Congress give to federal officers and agencies?

Kick off cold and flu season by learning to make one of herbalism’s most iconic remedies! In this class, we’ll explore the history of fire cider, the herbs, roots, citrus, and spices that give it its signature kick, and how each ingredient supports wellness throughout the colder months.
Before we start crafting, you’ll have the chance to sample a shot of homemade fire cider (if you’re feeling brave!) so you can experience this traditional herbal remedy firsthand. Then you’ll build your own custom batch to take home and infuse.

A graduate of Dixie High School, Ben Steele has spent his career in Helper, Utah, a former railroad and mining town that became, almost by accident, an artists' enclave. Working out of a repurposed industrial building on Main Street, he paints in a range of styles, but is best known for a single, restless habit: taking the icons of art history and pop culture and running them through a distinctly Utah lens.

Taylor Bickett is a storyteller at heart. Hailing from Indiana, she’s been writing music since before she can remember. Taylor’s intimate lyrics and outstanding vocal range gracefully overlay organic indie pop production to create introspective singer/songwriter tunes. After her wistful, Gen Z anthem “QUARTER LIFE CRISIS” hit the internet in 2022, the track compelled a generation struggling with their newfound adulthood to share their own photos and stories on TikTok soundtracked by her song. The trending audio amassed nearly half a million fan-made videos, and celebrities including Drew Barrymore and Kevin Jonas showcased their own transformations since age sixteen atop Taylor’s track, which features the lyrics, “I swear 16 was yesterday, but now I’m closer to 28.” Taylor’s subsequent 2023 EP grown up and lonely demonstrates her knack for writing honest and unfiltered songs that resonate with an entire generation. She kicked off 2024 with her single “I Like Mondays” which resonated with fans when she quickly wrote and posted the song on the 1st of January (a Monday). After spending the spring on the road, Taylor released her second EP, This Isn’t Me Missing You, on September 19th. Taylor spent 2024 touring with artists like Ron Pope, Blü Eyes, Andi and Áine Deane, which took her all over the US and UK. Her new song “The Crime,” based on a traumatic incident that sparked a passion for ending violence against women, will come out in honor of Women’s History Month in March of 2025. She is currently writing new music for her debut full length album
